My mother had never been to Joshua Tree and she really wanted to get out of the “June Gloom” that is currently enveloping us on the Southern California coast. She rented the Folly House, a real architectural gem in the desert between Joshua Tree and 29 Palms.
The absolute most fabulous thing about this place is the outdoor bedroom. High up at the top of the smaller structure, where the creatures can’t get to you, but open to the night air and with vistas of the mountains at sunrise and dusk and stars all night long. I don’t know how they do it. The room is impeccable. Unmarred by the elements, clean. And for something so exposed, it still felt sheltering. Highly recommend!
